First meeting of the New Semester

13 09 2010

We are so glad all of you could make it today and for those that couldn’t here is a heads up on what we covered today!

We started the meeting by introducing officers and professors. Marie Perret will be serving as President. Other officers are: Caitlin Periou – Vice President, Monique Tourres – Secretary , Brandi Monjure- Local Events Manager, and Sara Strasner- Treasurer. The faculty sponsor is Prof. Darius Spieth. We also welcomed Prof. Walsh and Prof. Zucker, and introduced the new Medieval professor, Matt Savage.

Marie Perret passed out a survey asking students what types of events they would prefer so that we can schedule guests and events that would be most beneficial.

Caitlin Periou went over ways to stay connected with SAHA, which include the SAHA website, lsusaha.wordpress.com. You can also follow SAHA on twitter – lsusaha.

We introduced the new Distinction Program, designed to keep members more involved. This form is attached at the end of the email. Requirements are flexible for those who can’t make meetings or events. This program is designed to help you get the most out of SAHA. We want you to be able to say you played in active role in SAHA when someone asks about it on your resume.

Next, we went over the importance of Local Events. SAHA officers will be making an effort to attend certain local events, and we encourage you to do the same. Our first event we have committed to is LSU Night at the LSU Museum of Art. This is Thursday, Sept. 16 from 6:30-8:30. This event is for LSU students! Admission is free to go out and see the arts community! More information is located here!

The professors also gave additional resources to help you get involved in the community and network yourself. Professor Walsh mentioned a group that provides updated information about Baton Rouge events. Sign up to the email list by emailing roguecherry@gmail.com. Professor Zucker mentioned the College Art Association. To learn more about membership, check out

Lastly, Sara Strasner mentioned the SAHA T-shirt. All members are welcome to submit designs! We will talk about this more next meeting so if you have any input, please stop by!

Thanks again to everyone who stopped by, we hope to see you again!
